Retaining its focus on entry-level segment, Nokia has introduced two ultra low cost Asha phones – 220 and Asha 230, both supporting 2G, OneDrive cloud storage and Xpress Browser.
Even as Internet is abuzz with Nokia's X-series phones, the company did also announce new smart feature phones at the ongoing MWC 2014 in Barcelona. Touted as “ultra affordable” phones, the new Nokia Asha 230 and Nokia 220 are priced at $62 (Rs. 3,844 approx.) and $40 (Rs. approx. 2,480) respectively. Dual-SIM version of the Asha 230 and 220 will be available soon.
First up is the Nokia Asha 230, which debuts with a new version of the Asha software platform v1.4. The new update brings a slew of new and improved features such as voice-guided “selfies” that lets you line up a shot. Also, 7GB of OneDrive storage from Microsoft. The update also brings Nokia Mix Radio.
The Asha 230 measures 99.5 x 58.6 x 13.2 mm and weighs 89.3 g. It has a 2.8 -inch touch display with 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The phone comes with 1.3MP camera, 64MB of RAM and supports microSD. Connectivity options include GSM, 2G, USB and Bluetooth 3.0.
The phone comes with Xpress Browser, which the company claims makes mobile Internet experience more efficient by compressesing Internet data. The Nokia Asha 230 also supports Microsoft Bing search via the Nokia Xpress Browser.
Nokia has also preloaded Facebook, Twitter, LINE, WhatsApp, and WeChat - with push notification support - and online HERE Maps is available, while ten games can be downloaded free of charge from the Nokia Store.
Building on the success of Nokia 110, the company announced the 220, which the company touts as the “most affordable data phone to date”.
The Nokia 220 house a 2.4-inch colour screen, Alphanumeric keypad, a 2-megapixel camera and up to 32GB microSD card support. Connectivity options include 2G, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB.
The phone comes preloaded with in-built MP3 player, video player and FM radio (headset required), six high-quality Gameloft games – Asphalt 6 Adrenaline, Assassin Creed, Block Breaker 3, Brain Challenge 3 and Modern Combat 2. It also comes pre-loaded with popular social-networking apps, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, LINE and WeChat. You can check out full specifications of the Asha 220 here.
